RAIL200 - WAGGONWAY CELEBRATION EVENT

As part of Rail200, the national celebrations of railways, being 200 years since the Stockton and Darlington Railway was conceived, we are hosting a celebration event to focus on the unique history of our own early railway history - 1722 and what came next!

On Friday 16th and Saturday 17th May 2025, we are encouraging visitors to come and discover the history of Scotland's earliest railway through an exciting series of events and activities.
ITINERARY:
Friday 16th May - 19:30 (doors open from 19:00)
Join us at the Battle of Prestonpans Jacobite Museum (Prestonpans Town Hall) for a talk by historians Anthony Dawson and Ed Bethune, who will introduce the latest research and archaeological findings relating to the 1722 Tranent - Cockenzie Waggonway, and give insight into this early railway's place in Scottish railway history.
Entry is FREE, but please reserve your space via EVENTBRITE

Saturday 17th May
Heritage Centre Open 10am - 4pm
Traditional Skills Activities - making trenails, quill and ink writing
Try traditional games - bagatelle, 'bar' billiards and more
Dress up and get your photo with the waggon
Guided walks - just turn up!

- Short walk (1.5miles) starts at 13:30
Licensed bar Opens at 3pm for refreshments
Evening Celebrations 5pm - 11pm
